Default Digi - Mbox Micro Does not fit on the left side of My MBP

From the Support Page

Compatibility Alerts

Use of Mbox 2, Mbox 2 Mini, Mbox 2 Micro, Original Mbox, or Other USB Audio Devices on the Right-Hand USB Port Is Not Recommended

* Due to internal USB architecture issues on the MacBook Pro, use of Digidesign, M-Audio, or third-party USB audio devices is supported on the left-hand USB ports only (the port or ports next to the power adapter cable).
* Use of such devices on the right-hand USB port is not advised because it may cause audio interrupts and/or dropped samples.
* However, the use of an iLok on the right-hand port is supported.

Digi, the micro rocks but I am a little annoyed I can't use the micro on the left side without the usb extender cable attached. What were the designers thinking? If I have the magsafe power chord in, there is not enough room to use it. Why would Digi make a USB output device that wasn't small enough to work on it's own?

I watched the Phil Jackson video and he clearly has the micro on the right side of the mac. (He was probably thinking the same thing as me) Can I get a definitive answer from Digi on if it is okay to use the right side for the Micro? It is audio output only.

Those are cool. I have never seen those before. That is definitely an alternative to a problem that should have never presented itself. I still want Digi to tell me if it's okay to use on the right. If their own DTV instructor uses it on the right, than why can't we?

You can use it in either port, but you may get errors from using it on the right. I've used both ports on most of the mbox systems and new macbook pro's and had no problems. But knowing that others have had problems means I don't advise clients do the same. When someone calls and tells me they're having an error, it's one of the first things I ask. Digidesign is simply trying to minimize the number of people who have these errors by strongly advising against (ie, not supporting) the use of the right side USB port.

Phil probably made those videos a considerable time before the problem was even uncovered.

This is a fake anyway. He didn't work with the Mbox Micro to make these videos. Whenever you see the screen, you can see he worked on PT HD.

I can't conceive of using my Micro or iLok without a USB extension. One wrong move and SNAP!
