Default No sound coming from monitors

Hi i am new to all this mbox and pro tools and am tryin to learn the ropes. I have a mbox mini hooked up to my computer and i am using pro tools le, i have sound coming out of my headphones but when i want to play the song after i record i have no sound coming from the speakers. The monitors are powered and they are hooked up to the soundcard just through rcas. Do i need an amp? or is there a setting in Pro tools i need to adjust or can i just hook trs cables coming out of the mono output on the back of the mbox into the monitors trs input. thank you for any advice.

Hey there! No worries, it's a common misconception when learnng ProTools. When running ProTools, the box (001,002,003,MBox, etc) is the sound card for the program... it runs independantly of your computer's sound card. To monitor from ProTools, you will need to plug your monitors into the 1/4" TRS outputs of the MBox, and output your session via Analog 1-2.

If you need to run your RCA cables because that's what the speaker uses, its easy to buy gold-plated RCA to 1/4" adapters at Radioshack for a few bucks... if you can afford it though, try and get some actual cables with those ends.

If your monitors are powered independently, you don't need an amp.

hi, thanks alot for the help i kind of thought that was right at first but wasnt sure. My speakers have trs inputs on them, so i can just run a set from the output on my mbox to the inputs on the speakers? I sound stupied but i just want to make sure i get this straight. and what do you mean by outputing my session via analog 1-2? thanks man

You really should spend a bit of time with the Mini Getting Started Guide.
It should help to answer some initial questions for you.

Plug your speakers into the rear TRS jacks labeled Mon Out (Monitor Output).
Pro Tools routes a two channel (left - right) output mix of your sessions to analog out's 1 and 2 by default.
The monitor outs carry that signal... also by default.

Good luck-
