Default Buffer size problems(too little then too much) during recording

I have an mbox pro tools 8 running on windows xp service pack3

Whenever i record, error(-9092) pops up, it tells me to increase H/W buffer size. The error message pops up at inconsistent times, sometimes 3 mins into recording or sometimes 1min.

The error message says to increase buffer size but when i do, error (-9129) tells me to reduce buffer size. This problem can happen when i dont play anything at ALL.

Ive tried all of the recommended ways to fix it and its been a year now and the bugfix for protools 8 didn't eliminate the problem.
I also know my computer is powerful enough to run pro tools.
It may be something in the background stuffing up when i record, but i have already looked thoroughly looked through the processes going on.

Please help out

Your best bet is to post a sandra report using the software found here:
www.sisoftware.co.uk

Then users here will know what's in your system and will be able to point you in the right direction.

For me personally sorting out my RAM timings was the key to a stable system, and once again the sandra software helped me diagnose the problem.

"I also know my computer is powerful enough to run pro tools."

Possibly so, but the most "powerful" PC in the world won't run Pro Tools reliably if you don't follow Digi's recommendations where setup is concerned. The first thing we tend to ask on here....are you using a QUALIFIED, dedicated audio drive? This is critical, and the most overlooked item on the DUC........
