Orchestral Emulation not possible in Pro Tools?!
I am a Pro Tools LE user. Over the past year I have been getting into some work that requires use of some of the excellent orchestral emulation programs. I am wanting to take it to the next level but not sure where to turn. I need to make a move in about a month on a system that will give me more power.
1.Giga not available for Mac. We all know that. 2. I bought GPO, loved it, but quickly found out that is does not work the way it should. You only get about 30% or 40% of the tracks you would get if you are using DP, Logic, Sonar or Nuendo. Rumors of updates swirl but I have ben waiting for over a year so I am not holding my breath anymore. 3.There is a well documented problem with Native Instruments plugs with Pro Tools. A few weeks ago there was a post from a developer at EWQL, that the new Kompakt interface shipping with RA and Collosuss is now Pro Tools friendly. He said an update would be available for all other EWQL programs. On this news I bought the Platinum Strings library, with the intent of buying a second G5 Mac to connect to my Dual 1.25 to make a decent set-up to drive Platinum. I am worried that I have not heard any mention of this “update” anywhere and I can’t seem to find anyone who has RA or Collossus to verify or deny that this new update will finally allow us to use EWQL programs in Pro Tools LE. Should I just cut bait and buy two PC’s and Sonar to run Platinum? (keeping my Pro Tools set-up. I Love PT too much to dump it) I have read enough posts that adding a PC to my MAC will create many headaches and complications. I want any easy, stramlined hastle free set-up that works. Any advice?

Re: Orchestral Emulation not possible in Pro Tools?!
I have the EWQL Symphonic Gold and haven't had any problems with ProTools, other than obvious things like my Powerbook slowing down after my 7th midi track assigned to it. I have a G4 1.25GHZ/1GB RAM and it's not too bad, I can only imagine what I'd get with a dual 2.5 G5. It's a great sounding library...

People using Logic, Nuendo DP or Sonar are getting 30 voices on systems less powerful than yours. You cant emulate an orchestra with 8 voices, and you cant get more than about 8 in Pro Tools using NI products.

Giga 3.0 has lots of bugs. I'd like to use EWQL stuff for many reasons which I wont go into here.

Re: Orchestral Emulation not possible in Pro Tools
I've just gotten Colossus and will get back to you as soon as I have installed it. I've experienced pretty much the same difficulties with other NI products as you (though on the XP platform) and my remedy is often to take to Reason, that have some librarys that to me are far more useful than GPO... (dryer, closer, more "in ya face" and then I'm talking Strings refill and woodwinds).

GW!
How is it going with Collossus and PT LE? Very curious. You are the only person using PT LE I have been able to find on 4 forums using this combination.

Re: Orchestral Emulation not possible in Pro Tools
There was suppose to be a fix that works great with PTLE 6.7
....then Digi came out with 6.9. I'm awaiting EWQLS Choirs and EWQLSO-Gold Pro. We're almost 75% midi now, except for guitars and bass. So we'll play digi's waiting game, and see what evolves with "7". Been working with Logic 7.1 on my buds system so.......... we'll see
