Default Digidesign Databases and ejecting USB memory stick

How could I stop Pro Tools writing its Digidesign Databases to my USB memory stick (no, I don't use it for Pro Tools)? I also would like to be able to eject the memory stick from Finder, without first unmounting it from Pro Tools (one unnecessary step)! OSX 10.3.8 and PT 6.9.1 here.
