Default Syncheck 3, worth it?

Hi guys... I do audio post for advertising, tv and film, and the video editors I work with usually give me a variety of video file formats which I noticed change the delay of audio sync. I consider myself to have a good eye to adjust the sync offset but then again it might not be perfect.
I found a device to measures video audio sync called syncheck3. Anyone here has used it? If so, is it worth the $500 price tag? Any pros and cons.

Thanks in advance

Well, if you ever find yourself in the position of being with a client during a session and needing to tighten or adjust lipflap, you need Syncheck.

Those small quarter frame nudges that can make or break a convincing bit of dialog simply can't be done with confidence if you don't know how late your screen is.

The only downside of Syncheck for me was the discovery that most of the video cards and HD screens that audio studios use are jittery pieces of junk. You'll be surprised how much mush there is visually when you use Syncheck.

I'd go so far as to say its essential.

How do you know if what you're seeing is in sync or not without
syncheck or something similar?

I agree its pricey, but its a specialized piece of kit.

We are using a neat little iPhone app called catchin' sync. It works very good (I think even better then syncheck3, we have both). Tested with a lot of different devices and has an accuracy of about 1 qfr.

Yes, buy the SyncCheck. If you consider yourself a pro you must tune your system with the measuring tools.
However the Synchcheck itself doesn't solve the problem. The only solution is to have a Sync HD, Black burst reference and the card which accepts it e.g. BM Decklink SDI.

Pro Tools for years relies on "floating" quick time movie which drifting for good without synchronisation noted above.
A better PT11 video engine is still under construction but will never be perfect either because the same technological limitations.

We found Syncheck to be more accurate.

Syncheck 3 is only worth it if you are in the business of audio post. I rate it up there with pink noise and the 1K tone.

I received a foley session to edit with terrible production sound sync (makes editing to that impossible in itself), reyling on that "sync" to be correct (at first). The client was worth the investment in the device and I take it with me to every studio I freelance at. That and an spl meter, as well as the bluesky tones and Marti Humphrey's dolby tone he posted here some time ago.

Yes, a valuable tool. I have Syncheck 2 and when possible I´ll buy the version 3 which has lcd display, easier to check values.

Go for it!
