Default External hard drive question

Why is it that when recording you are suppose to record on an external hard drive again? I've always done this but I forget why??

Thanks!

Default Re: External hard drive question

It doesn't have to be external. If you have a Mac Pro for example, you can record to a 2nd internal drive, but for laptops and iMacs the only option is an external firewire drive. The idea being that you need a dedicated drive to record to, because the system drive gets used/accessed constantly by the OS and interferes with Pro Tools if you try and record to it, so you need that dedicated drive to make sure PT has uninterrupted access to the files it needs.
