Default Hardware Controller

Can anyone recommend some options as a controller for a Digi 002 Rack?

I've seen some dedicated controllers as well as equipment such as the Yamaha 01V96 which would controls Pro Tools. Can anyone give me some ideas/options around the £1500 mark.

Thanks

Gary

Any particular reason you (or anyone for that matter) decided to get the 002 without faders???
Check out the command 8, the radikal 2k..............

At the time it was the cost. I knew I would upgrade to a controller and wanted more options and flexibility than just the eight faders offered by the 002.

I use the Tascam US-2400, awesome baby!!

a control surface, analogue mixer touch... So very expensive if you only need 8/16 faders... but if you need more than 16 faders, it's not expensive (try to get mackie universal control plus faders expansion...).

Regards.

I will second the Tascam US-2400. Great controller for the money. It doesn't have very many features, but for the money it's got all you need!

If you don't mind "discontinued", I still use a MACKIE HUI, which controls nearly every function within LE. Large footprint, but it works GREAT. You can catch 'em for pretty good prices on ebay now and again....

...I'm actually moving my "home" studio to a new location soon, (with a partner) and I may not need this board....It may hit the "buy/sell" board in a few weeks if you're interested....

for the money you want to spend, which is equivelent to about $2,700 USD, I think the Yamaha 01V96 can not be beat. It has 12 mono mic pres, can output via S/PDIF, ADAT, and four 1/4" TRS out puts. So you can bring 12 additional channels into Protools (8 via ADAT Optical, and 4 via the "Omni-outs") into your 002R. You get 16 faders (the master fader won't work with Protools, but neither will anyone else's), 4-band fullr parametric EQ on EVERY input and output, compresors, limiters, gates, and delays on every I/O, four internal effects prossesors, capability to run expand the board and run up to 32 mono XLR inputs, with 8 AUX sends, 8 subgroups; you can use it live or in the studio.

And working in HUI mode, the board works great as a Protools controller. You get a real scrub/shuttle wheel, can bank you faders in groups of 16, you have the ability to run it as a real audio interface with EQ and compression AND as a Protools controller at the same timer (you do have to switch modes, but it involves the push of one button).

I've got the 01V96 and I LOVE it. For the money, and the feature set, I can't recomend it enough. I bought my 01V96 for $1850 USD. You should be able to find one for around the £1,000 GBP mark.
