Bad purchases maybe
Hi all I've been a huge protools junkie in the last 8 months after giving up on cubase which i used since '96 ..i started with a mbox on my g4 1.25 in osx and loved it untill i baught a uad1 card and started having tons of issues. I got rid of the mbox for a 001 and all was fine but i would like the lower latency and added power of tdm so I've since sold that. Heres where I'm at...
I've recently purchased a d24 card a dsp farm card with a interface cable all as a lot, Iv'e also purchased a 888/24 rev B (which i think has 20 bit converters DOH). I'm waiting for all of this to arrive and since done some more research and found out there are plugin allocation issues with the d24 card and that my 888/24 doesnt really have 24 bit converters ..can anybody confirm or correct this information and should i sell the d24 and get a Mix core card which I think might be a good idea |

Re: Bad purchases maybe
don't know about the D24 issues, but the early 888/24's were 20 bit on the output only, assuming my memory isn't complete garbage.

Re: Bad purchases maybe
From the answerbase - Serial # and Rev cutoff for 20-bit DACs
A MIX Core card will give you a closer to supported configuration with the last version of PT for MIX, v6.4.1cs2. Certain plug-ins will not load on a DSP Farm with that version.

Re: Bad purchases maybe
I think you may have email Digi on the serial numbers as I had some early 888/24 modified by Digi to 24 Biy DAC's and they came back with the same serial numbers. Digi tech support should be be able to tell you with the serial numbers.

Re: Bad purchases maybe
I would go Mix Core if you can. A lot of plugins won't run on those old cards. I had a couple in my previous Mix system and they wouldn't run much except Digirack from memory.

Re: Bad purchases maybe
Sounds like you've already paid for the cards, so I'd add a mix farm later if you need. Waves 5 TDM loads up on the old DSP farm before going to the MIX farm in my system... So they're not completely useless
The Waves plugs are good in that they share chips - digirack does too - but some other plugs will take an entire chip and not share, that sucks when you've only got 3 DSP chips <- with a d24 card and DSP farm the first DSP chip on the DSP farm will be taken up for the mixer plugin - when you add a MIX farm the d24 card handles the mixer (so it's not just taking up a PCI slot). |
