I bought the saturation plug a few months ago, not the FX options though.

I personally find it a fantastic plugin. Basically - it sounds freaking great, like a sugar coating on everything. It's on all my master busses now.

Depending on bias setting (and general settings) - it really draws out some lush higher order harmonics, and the low end fattens up and smooths out at the same time. It gives a light compression effect that is great for sorting ultra fast transient responses - but I wouldn't call it a compressor, per-se.

I can't reference it to the real deal tape machines, but both the US ans Swiss settings are extremely useable - I started out sticking to the US setting as gearheads are always raving about the M79 it emulates, but now the Swiss setting is really floating my boat.

I've found it best on drums, bass, and vocals. But it also sounds great on electric and acoustic guitars, keys..... basically everything. Especially your Master track.

Well worth the money, even though it is pricey. I couldn't do without it now.

To the OP: Why not use the free 14-day trial of the plugin?

just saw i had some replies to this! thanks for the informative response che. am definitely going to check the trial like pezking suggested. very interested in these types of plugs.

was at my buddy's studio the other day and he used psp vintage warmer on a couple of tracks and it sounded really good. definitely interested in hearing the difference between the psp and digi stuff.

i read elsewhere that someone recommended the oxford inflator in this area fyi.

Don't forget the Massey tape head plugin. It works well and has a very useful free demo one can download.

I like the suite quite a bit but it seems to be a cpu hog! (I haven't tried the 8.0.1 update yet)
The Tape emulator and the Tape delay are really good, although not terribly flexible. I have the Fatso on UAD and the McDSP analog channel LE and the Digi tape Saturator is up there with those, although the Fatso is definitely the most flexible and usable overall. FOr fast and quick tape emulation the Digi one is definitely the easiest.
The Tape delay sounds awesome, and is more flexible than the UAD Roland, but it doesn't sound like the Roland, either. Haven't played with the other plugs yet, but I expect them to but really good as well.

I had to go to tech support to get the 14 day trial because as you've found, there isn't an option for it. All part of the new lame website.

IMHO Tape saturation is ok but nothing on analogue channel. I also remember one of the plugs, flanger i think having a bucket load of latency.

I thought the real tape suite was TDM only? In any case, Massey has a tape plugin that is cheap and gets good reviews. Also, check out the demo of Steven Slate's console plugin.
