Default High Sample rates with Native HD card

I am getting ready to start a music project on my new Windows rig with Pro Tools 12 HD or 10 HD and a Native card.

A while back I moved from an HD3 system, with a core card and two Accel cards. Now that I am on Native HD card, I am wondering how many tracks I can record and play back, or plug-in limitations if I record at 88.2K or 96K, since the computer processor will be handling the load instead of the Avid DSP cards.

Not looking for exact numbers, but an estimate. I ask because I tried a small session a while back and started getting error messages right away, but wasn't able to determine if that was a setting, or a limitation of the computer power.

Any thoughts?

Default High Sample rates with Native HD card

I have no error messages, personally ....

Usually only running 30 or so tracks. Probably could playback 256 iirc

Music and VI's. Running Waves, UAD and other plugs out the wazoo

I do run 44.1k / 24 bit (not 32) and am able to run at 64 buffer.

With SSD OS drive and Record drive.

Happy happy here

My question is specific to working at HIGH sample rates such as 88.2K and/or 96K.

Anyone else?

Clear sailing at 44.1K. I get that.

Well there are no issues, specifically with 96 or 88.2.

I have several of those sessions as well, but I don't do anything personally at those depths anymore. But there isn't anything error wise related to those that I've found.

I was re-leveling a song at both 88.2 and 96 yesterday, no issues it just makes your system work harder.....and a bigger footprint for the session.

I repeat nothing related specifically to 88.2 or 96 error side for 12.5.1 HDN and Win10PRO

In my experience

My error issue (don't remember the wording) was specific to running out of steam.

I guess my question if for those working at 88.2K or 96K on Native HD. What sort of maximum track counts are you getting?

Its all dependent on the power of your system. 88/96 both require twice the power for plugin processing and they also are hard on your drive transfer rates. Depending on the track count, you may require more speed than a standard HHD. You typically are also going to have to up your buffer size in order to track. You may have issues at 64, and have to bump up to 128. Again, it is all about your system. Without knowing what those errors were, no way to guess what the problem was.

Just to add, there are also known hardware buffer issues with W10 and HDX/HD Native to be aware of. If you're on HD Native and use those specific hardware buffer settings and sample rates, then stick with W7 for the time being.
