A good fair price.....

By just going off of these specs, what would be a fair price to buy/sell this unit at:

PIII 866
256 mb ram (pc133)
hd1- 30 gig 7200 rpm
hd2- 45 gig 7200 rpm
shuttle shu-ae22/socket 370 Intel 815 MB
adaptec 2906 scsi card
ati video card (step below all-in-wonder)
server tower case (6 5.25 bays)
cd-rom 40x

unit is about a year old now.....

what would you think?

Well you can buy it new with one hard drive for around 400.00 so half of that would be 200.00. So 200-300.00 would be fair. I bought an HP Pavillion P3 850Mhz last year for 450.00 with a 30GB hard drive brand new.
Man computers outdate fast.

I had it built last year, right around this time.

The tweak and bench tests comment is for the ones, who every time I've come and read posts here, seem to be more concerned with fiddling with the hardware than actually doing anything musical.

As for the plug-ins, any of the GOOD 3rd party plugs are gonna use a lot of juice to produce (Bomb Factory, Waves, etc...) You can always run a zillion stock plugins, but the just don't compare... (besides, how many plugs do you really need to run?)

MAC's power is just not enough for good quality plugs. However, if you only mix a few tracks or use only Digrack it is enough.

yeah, the Digirack plugs are weak (sorry Digi).

My system was actually built for about $300 less than yours (I got everything at cost; I am friends with the builder) So if you added up the parts, it would have cost about $2k.

I'm actually moving away from PT, and going to Digital Performer 3.1 ... TDM compatibility, can open PT files, etc... DP can use the Altivec engine in the G4, and work with dual processors. So I won't have any 'power' issues.

I am downloading the mp3 that you have available..... :-D

You should have said so at the beginning. DP is a total different story. It works excellent with Dual G4s under OSX. You should have no problems then. I was just talking for PT LE.

that's kinda what I was thinking (POD).

for your type of stuff, have you tried a Roland Vg-8? ES-335 sound would fit in quite nicely.....
