Default Best addon AD/DA for Digi001

im about to add 8 analog in/outs to my system, and im wondering if any if you guys have any recomendations on what to get? Apogee or RME would be nice but they are WAY out of budget for me, ive been looking at Alesis AI3, I know fostex got a similar unit. Also Frontier Tango 24 looks nice, crystal converters in that one. So what should i go for??

Might not be the best, but the cheapest: Fostex VC-8.
There's been a price drop right now so it's EUR 249, at least here. I own one and it works cool, but no balanced IOs (it's RCA).
But shure a price difference to ai3 and I'm not shure if this offers better quality.

AI-3 is Balanced AND 24 bit. The Fostex is neither (20 bit). Theres about a $100 price difference. WELL WORTH IT. Go with the Alesis. - $399 at sweetwater.

I have the ai3 and it sounds better than the converters on the 001. Go for it!

the latency is the same as the digi 001.

We're dealing with light here, Not to worry

Basically latency comes from the processor buffers and not the actual gear.

When I record I have the latency at it's smallest setting. When I mix, I set the latency higher to give more plugin bandwidth.

Have you heard of Lucid?

They are more than the Alesis, but are less than Apogee or RME....

So what is the deal with the Alesis AI-3 ?

You hook it up to the digi001 thru the optical interface and BAM you get 8 more microphone ports?

never heard of Lucid, whats the specs on those???

Mr Scary P4P
almost true, the alesis dont have built in micepre's only line inputs. But you can use the micpres on an external mixer to feed the AI3. and "BAM" you get 16channels of analog in/outs of the digi001
