9600 + G3 card + PT5.0 LE Digi001 ???
Well, that's the configuration tat a friend of mine wants to run at home. The question is, will it work ??
WIth ~200 MB RAM, UW SCSI controller and two gfx cards and a 350 MHz CPU, I reckon it's powerful enough, but I'd like to know of any problems with this machine and PT5.0 LE before he buys the machine(he's got a good offer). Any info is apreciated. Take care Tony Pearson TV/Grundy Europe

I use a 9500 with a 400 MHz G-3 upgrade card and it works fine.

Re: 9600 + G3 card + PT5.0 LE Digi001 ???
Anyone heard of a "Bus". 8500 to 9600's
have only 50Mhz buses. G3's & G4's have 100. This is what people don't consider. The G4 100 Mhz can pass 800bytes per second. The 50 Mhz machines pass--you guessed it--Maybe 100 to 400bytes per second depending on the processor. Something else people don't talk about much is the DAE buffer, which I consider to be the single most important tool for handeling Plug-ins. In answer to your question, I have an 8500 with a G3/400Mhz chip-240MB ram-2 HD's. I can open 20 tracks with 3 auxs and 1 realverb (oink)1 D-verb (oink) and a waves ren/comp (oink)on the auxs--Maxxbass (oink)on the bass and several 1band PT eq's for low roll off. I can even add an L1 on the bounce if I jack up the DAE buffer to 8. In the mean time I can use as many C1's--Q1's and 6 band Ren/EQ's and Ren/comp's as I want with Audiosuite--20-30 times if I feel like experimenting. Actually I am getting much better at recording the proper sound in the first place--therefore Not needing any plugs sometimes. I am getting Fabulous 24bit recordings. I will get the G4' someday, but for this poor boy the 8500 ROCKS!!

Re: 9600 + G3 card + PT5.0 LE Digi001 ???
It's good to hear that those nice old Macs work so well. Thanks for the info guys. My buddy here's buying the 9600 as soon as the guy selling it gets his extension chassis for his new G4.
Since I'm somewhat not versed in Mac prices, here's the rolldown, so you guys can tell me if it's not a good deal: 9600, G3 350MHZ card, 192 MB RAM, UW(or UW2?) SCSI card, some internal SCSI HD, MacOS 9.04, Logic Audio 4.5 Platinum and perhaps even an external SCSI drive. This is an internal studio deal, so I think the price is very low.$950 . I'd jump around on endorphins with this deal. Somehow, I wish I worked at that studio like he is(his boss is selling the Mac). Tony
