Best Books for Pro Tools....

Hi Everyone,

Well, finally, I just received my Digi 003 Rack and am ready to hook it up and install Pro Tools.

I was wondering what books you all would recommend, from your own experience or advice from others, for learning Pro Tools.

There seems to be a lot of good books available at amazon.com that are pretty inexpensive.

What about the big 900 or so page Pro Tools Manual on the Digi store website?

Is that a must have?

Also...I have 2 of the Secrets of The Pro's DVD's which are decent. Are there any other DVD's that you recommend as well?

In case you didn't realize it, you already have the PT manual in PDF form (at least I assume you got your 003 new in the box). It's on the documentation disc that comes with it.

There is a lot of good reference material out there for sure. The digi manual has the most accurate, in-depth information though, obviously.

It's definitely worth it to get the hard-copy and print a copy of the keyboard shortcuts from the pdf files.

I work away until I get stuck on something and then look it up.

Pro Tools For Musician's and Songwriters has helped me A LOT. It's my go-to book & sits next to me at my workstation. I bought it based on the reviews on Amazon and I was not disappointed. I would especially recommend it for PT beginners and/or people who are not at a high tech level (like myself . The author is a musician & songwriter herself, as well as a producer & audio technician. She lays it all out in series of painless lessons as a way for us musicians & songwriters to get a good grip on PT. This book grounded me when I felt totally overwhelmed & lost. It's PT 101 you might say.

I've not had much luck with the Reference Guide. Unfortunately I seem to become more overwhelmed when I refer to it, and I think that's because it's geared toward tech-educated minds. I can only strive to reach that level. Until then, PTFM&S (and the good people here) are giving me the leg-up that I need.
