Default Need Urgent Advice Should I purchase this Plextore...

I Just wondered whether you all think I should purchase the Plextor PlexWriter 16/10/40A 800/886-3935

I am thinking of buying it 'real soon' from here: http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/artic...24,pg,2,00.asp
It is the 3. one down...the Plextor PlexWriter 16/10/40A 800/886-3935

FEATURES: 12X/10X/32X,1 IDE, internal, 2MB buffer, buffer underrun
compensation technology, Ahead Nero Burning ROM 5.0.3 and InCD 1.76,
one-year warranty, toll support for 12 hours weekdays.
SUMMARY: Affordably priced, this drive has above-average CD-R performance
for its speed class; however, it may be difficult to find in stores.

I am using a Dell Computer with Windows ME with Pro Tools 5.1 (with update
5.2) and the cd burning programs I have are CD architech/soundforge 4.5 and/or I could use Wavelab.

I will be burning, and selling my little classical guitar CD's with this
plextore in my local areas. I can't afford any 'coaster mug cd's', so this
must be a fairly reliable burner(also what are the most reliable blank cd's
right now to buy in bulk?...the ones which are clear of heavy print so that
I can label the disk my self ?... I am currently trying TDK CD-R 650 74 min)

With the Plextor I really want to use my CD architech...is anybody here using this particular plextor with CD Architech?

So good buddies, Should I buy this Plextor?

Thanks,
Guitar Easley

One thing to keep in mind, 2 mb w/ buffer underun technology (Burn Proof) has been reported here to cause clicks in burned audio CDs. Turn Burn Proof off.

So, the Yamaha 2100 may be the better burner with its 8 mb buffer. No burn proof BS.

I didn't have a very good experience with two plexwriters. Sorry to report. And the company is really difficult to deal with. IMO

wow...I am surprized. So far all I hear about is how great Plextores are(of course maybe those people don't burn live recorded music with them).

Thanks for you're input. I will have to rethink this.

sorry that link didnt work too well. If you can from there click '.direct.mwave.com',
then click 'product catolog',
then click 'CD ROM-Rewritable'
then click 'yamaha'

then tell me what you think of the $199 deal.

I bought the 24x LaCie writer (firewire and USB) for $349. It works great , but burnproof sucks. I have 12x CDs, and my dealer told me I could burn them at 24x because of "Burnproof" technology. Great . So I pop in a CD to burn some data at 24x, and it is DEAD SLOW. Each "second" on the counter takes 3 seconds to change. The drive intensely whirrs away, implying it 's being extra careful.. or something.

So I turned burnproof off and now I just burn at 12x. It works great and I like the drive. No coasters.

I also have a plextore writer that has never given me any problems. Rock solid.

Guitar Easily,

Check over at Other World Computing
http://www.macsales.com/

I think the ultra SCSI version is more. The IDE less. FWIW

I am curious if anybody in this forum is happy with Plextore?

I really am indecisive here.

I would go with the 2100 personally. 8 mb is twice the buffer of the old 'champ', the Plexwriter 820.

4x that of the new Plexwriters.

If you choose Plextor- buy from Glyph. None of them seem to have problems.

FWIW
