Default Which of my Studio monitors should i use?

Alright...

I've heard mixed messages from alot of people and i was wondering the DUCs opinion.

My options are:

Yamaha NS-10s - Industry Reference Speaker
Yamaha NS-W(sub) - Matched Sub
Tannoy Proto-Js - Cheap (make everything sound good) speaker
Sennheiser HD280 headphones
And a Pair of Bose 6.5 w/Tweeter house speakers.

What do you guys think my setup and process should be from Tracking to edit to Mix. Right now the other engineer i share the space with likes to use the NS-10s for everything.. but my ears cant take it for long.

Jon

If your ears don't like them, don't use them. Or at least don't use them all the time. Try to check your mixes in several monitors/speakers/headphones.

figure out hoe to hook them all up with a switcher or whatever works for you and listen to them all....not at the same time of course. then take the mix to your car.
I have Event20/20's with a Hafler amp, matching powered Sub, and a cheap RCA boom box in my control room.
I get my mixes sounding good with and without the Sub, then listen on the boom box, tweak, then again through the Events. Then I take it to the living room and listen through a kenwood amp and infinity sm120's, take notes on what I like and don't, then if needed back into the mix room, then into my nissan with a Bose system.
Once it sounds good everywhere you're there.

ps I also have the same Sennheiser cans and some Ultrasones, I also check my mixes through these also but don't real mix through them.

ppss I also really like to send mixes home with clients and have them play them for folks who "know nothing" about audio and get their opinions, most people who will hear your mixes "know nothing" about audio and I have found their opinions often quite helpful and allot more honest.

hope this helps,
Scott

Alright.. I'll set it up this way..

Control Room: (engineer and Mix/Edit
Tannoy Proto-Js as mains
NS-10s as Reference with a No Sub option
Headphones as Reference as well

Live Room: (listening back and compare)
Bose 6.5 w/Tweeter house speakers
JBL Powered 15s w/horn PA Speakers
Cheesy PC Speakers.

And I should be able to wire all of that from the same amp or a separate amp per room.

And of course there is always the car.

Does that sound like a good start?

Thanks for the Ideas btw

also burn a cd and put it into a multidisc changer with similar music, hit random and compare your mixes with the "big" boys

I can't mix on NS-10s. My 2 cents.
