Default Your take on PT 9

I'm still using Pt 7.4 cs2 and since I'm upgrading gear and PC I've been reading a lot here and on other forums about PT 9 and I see a lot of threads with problems with it.

So I'm going to as straight out. What's your take on PT 9. Worth it? Should I wait for more updates to be done?

Nothing more than the other versions I absolutely love PT9! I don't think you'll be disappointed if you crossgrade. Just be sure that your computer and operating system are up to speed.

Thumbs up Re: Your take on PT 9

You're only seeing the 2% of people who are experiencing problems with it. The other 98% aren't posting here, and they're having a great time with the best version of Pro Tools ever.

I don't remember my rig being this stable since I had 5.1.3 on a MIX system.

Avid got it right. Buy it! You won't regret it.

Those that are having problems may be because they have not read the installation guide. For example, if you don't download the specific hardware drivers, you can't access the hardware.

Others have old plug-ins that are causing problems.

It's recommended by Digi to uninstall PT, load the drivers and then load PT9.

After their problem is solved, most won't come back to report their success because they were doing something wrong and are embarrassed to report it.

No software is perfect and there are problems with PT like an update erasing needed files. Rest assured this is not the final version of 9!

I'm fine with PT9 on my Mac.

I think once we get more stable drivers things will be much better.

Im yet to find a single error in PT9.

There were a couple of things I had to be aware of before I did anything though.

Like installing digi002 drivers that Ive, as far as I can remember, never been forced to do earlier.

There`s also the new session documents to choose from. With a lot of different set ups, like guitar ballad, eleven rack etc.. They all seem to have different inputs on tracks so if you create a blank session be shure to choose stereomix on i/o settings (not, "last used") or else you wont find all the inputs on audiotracks.

IMO the jump for PTLE7 to PT9 is gonna almost be like night in day. PT8 was a nice upgrade and PT9 just extends it further. I've not had any issues whatsoever. However I'm pretty diligent about keeping my plugs up to date and reading through all the compatibility documents before upgrading. I am loving it.

IT may well depend on what your needs are, but - and I think I wrote this back on the day that it came out (and I bought and installed it) - three little words that make PT9 indespensible.....timecode, timecode, timecode!
If you're doing anything at all regarding film and/or visuals - and never could bring yourself to drop $1k+ on the DV Toolkit - complete timecode in PT9 definitely makes it a no-brainer...
