Another question I have is how do I pull up all of the additional software for protools such as First Air and such? I have downloaded it and installed it but cannot find it.
Never heard of First Air. Are you using PT First or regular full PT? As to finding plugins insert a track in your session whether it be an aux, audio or instrument track. Then click on a track insert and you should see a list of your plugins. You can set how that list sorts by going to PT's preferences and set the sort there. I would suggest getting friendly with the manual aka the user guide since you're new to the program. Remember you can only use mono plugins on a mono track and stereo plugins on a stereo track (or dual mono on a stereo track).

I am using regular full protools. Thanks for the information, I will have to go through the manual. First air is a plugin available at protools called First air effects and then first air instruments. The better question is, do you have to move plugin files into the protools master folder or does protools randomly find them?

Let the installer put the plugins where it wants to. Do that and PT will find them. Thanks for the explanation on what you meant as regards the plugins as they are never referred to the way you first mentioned them. Whay you're talking about are collections of individual plugins that are installed from one installer fro the effects and another for the instruments.

Reading the manual is essential for getting to do most anything in PT even if you've done recording before and even more so if you're new to the game. What is also essential is fully optimizing your computer for working in PT. A Google search should help turn up the info needed.
