"pause" keeps PT from playing

Hi PTPals- this happens every now and then and I wonder if anyone knows why. I will open a session and when I hit my spacebar to play, the play button on my toolbar blinks green and in my lower left status bar it shows "pause". The only thing I notice that is common to the times this happens is that usually its when I've done some work and then let PT sit for a few hours and come back to it.

To fix it, I need to restart my computer. If I just close and reopen PT that doesn't do it. Any clues as to how this might happen? Or any workaround in which I don't have to restart?

Any chance you let your computer go to sleep every now and then? Sleep is not supported with Pro Tools.

Hmmm...in my System Preferences I have sleep set to "Never". I do put my iMac to sleep at night, but ProTools and all apps are closed during that time.

Any chance some preference or something gets ticked that I don't know about? I look at Loop Playback when this happens but messing with that doesn't seem to do anything.

Try to shut it down for night and then start again in the morning. If your problem goes away you have proven yourself that sleep function is really not supported by PT.

Are you running EuControl?

Yup. I'll get the same thing on Windows if I lock the computer with Pro Tools open, but it usually just happens randomly when I open maybe every 20th session. Hit play and nothing, so I have to restart PT. When it happens in front of clients I tell them that's an industry standard feature.

True, got this pause issue on Windows 10 a few times, can be probably solved with the system "sleep" settings.

I do see this, but rarely. (The old PLAY/PAUSE issue.)
A relaunch of Pro Tools always solves it for me.

Yeah I've seen this as well but not for quite a while. I think there are a couple of old VIs that can cause it to do this sporadically as well (from memory Transfuser and Loom, though I've not used either for some time).
