So, what I said above is not entirely correct. I was reading through the FAQs and found this which is actually a very generous deal. Thank you Avid!

Q: After I register my Carbon audio interface, do I get a Pro Tools | Ultimate perpetual license instead of the Pro Tools annual subscription that typically comes with Carbon, or do I get both?
A: You get both! When you purchase and register your Carbon on or before December 31, 2021, you will not only get the Pro Tools annual subscription that already comes with your interface, you’ll also get access to a Pro Tools | Ultimate perpetual license.

Q: I’d like to use up my free year of annual subscription before accessing my free year of Pro Tools | Ultimate–can I do that?
A: Yes! Your Pro Tools | Ultimate perpetual license is automatically deposited into your MyAvid account’s Products Not Yet Downloaded. The clock does not start ticking on the Updates + Support Plan for this new perpetual license until you’ve activated it from this page.

That looks to me like over 2 years or longer of updates depending on when I activate the Ultimate perpetual

These offers only applies to perp users if they are still covered under an update plan.
So if your perp license has already expired/lapse, this will not work for you.

This is not correct.
Any perpetual license holder, from v9 and up, support plan expired or not, can get this latest offer, $99 for a one year subscription on regular PT. $299 for Ultimate. If you don't renew after a year, you can go back to your old perpetual, and you're back to square one.

I got the promo - but my perpetual licence does not expire until March 2022! So they want me to spend another $99 now and then forego the remaining 5 months of my existing plan that I have already paid for (licence and upgrade plan) - so in essence throwing away another $150? Or do they roll the year from when your current plan expires - so it would kick in next March?

It is not entirely clear what the rub is from a timing perspective.

You need to ask whatever is not clear.

As a rule of thumb, subscription is not messing up with perpetual and vice versa, so yes, it would seem to me that you "lose" 5mth of your update plan if you subscribe now. Does not hurt to ask your Avid dealer though, what is the case here.

On a positive side, you would have two licenses for two systems.

Yes I know what you’ve stated.

It’s a very good deal. You get heat, inner circle, and plugs for 99.00, not to mention the additional protools license for one year. 299.00 for ultimate.

And after that year with Heat and plugs, you can choose to continue the subscription at regular price, $299/799 (or whatever Avid decides is the annual price), or go back to your perpetual license, and lose Heat and some plugs. It's a teaser.
(Added: worst case; you might have created sessions in newer versions of PT that won't even work in the old perpetual license with expired update plan. Any sessions w/Heat certainly won't sound the same. You might actually feel you're locked into the subscription because of things like that.)

For those like me that hate subscriptions, what is a reasonable amount you would pay annually to consider going subscription? For standard PT, I think I would accept $150 + 50 for all plugins So $200 a year which is less than $17 a month. Maybe paying a little more could yield you a perpetual license for that past year so at least you have something in case you fall on hard times. Now, if they gave us this $99 deal every year for perpetual license holders, that would be awesome, but very unlikely. I guess I’m dreaming. What would you guys be willing to pay for Ultimate a year?

So my perpetual vanilla is coming due. If I buy into this sub, my perpet lapses unless I pay for it as well, is that correct? If it lapses what do I have to pay to reinstate in a year?
