Thanks Joel, greatly (MUCH greatly appreciate everyone's time.

Now I just need to figure out if I can still use the Digi~003 console with the Scarlette. I really like the console to be able to switch aux inputs in the push of a button and be able to switch instantly from two monitors, and the mono button is really useful as well.

If not then I'll just Slave the Digimax FS and reconfigure.

The Scarlette Mix Control is quite powerful and can provide a lot of routing options, but it can be a bit much to get a handle on. It is quite similar to my ProFire 2626 software, so I didn't find it too bad. I still have the 2626 connect to ADAT for another 8 mic pre's.

Joel
Scarlette sounds really good about now. Will make calls to see if it will rock & rock with my old Mac Pro.

What is your price point?
How many pre's?
What OS version?

I've been happy with my Scarlette 18i20 (1st gen) and still have my old ProFire 2626 connected to it via ADAT for 16 mic pre total.

Joel
Hey Joel, got a chance on a great deal on a Scarlette18i20 2nd generation.

Researching now if it's compatible with my 2010 Mac Pro.

Your Mac Pro compatibility isn’t the issue. It’s a USB interface.

You need to concern yourself with driver support. Make sure the interface has drivers for the macOS version you’re running.

Thanks Sardi. I'm looking into it now.

From what I read from USB 2.0 it doesn't sustain the speed as compared to firewire 400, even though the spec is at 480.

USB has more CPU overhead then firewire as I recall.. There is a bit of trade off, I've had good luck with my firewire interface too (ProFire 2626), but USB realistically has more of a future than firewire.

USB 2.0 has plenty of capacity for the 18i20's IO.

As Sardi mentioned, driver support is the key. Both to support your older Mac, and for new OS's that come out should you upgrade in the future.

JoelG, may I ask regarding tracking.

I'm able to track 18 inputs with my003/DigimaxFS/SPDIF at 32 buffer at 48k.with a handful of effects.

What are you getting with the Focusrite/2626 ? Thanks.
