I've been searching around about whether you can change how protools overlaps regions. I was wondering if there is anyway of making it so that protools never actually overlaps regions, but instead just trims the regions of what would normally overlap.

unless you add a crossfade, any edit should be a sharp cutoff from one region to the next. Try SHUFFLE mode if you want to remove parts of a region and have the next part snap to the end of the earlier un-deleted region. Experiment with the 4 choices of GRID, SHUFFLE, SLIP, etc to find out how they work and I think you will find the solution. Try it on a junk session or just don't save when you finish your experiments.
