Eventide Orville & PT
Although I plan on using plugins, there are some things that I do not believe can be accomplished without rock solid outboard gear. So I am planning on getting the Eventide Orville and run it to the 192 direfctly via an AES/EBU snake. This will be mainly used for vox processing during final mix.
Does anyone have any experience with this unit and especially any issues with roundtrips from PT to the Box and back during mix. Any latency or other issues with the setup that I am planning? Thanks. |

Re: Eventide Orville & PT
Not all of the Orville's programs run at 96K - many only go up to 48K - so Digital in/out may become a hassle for you if you are at 96K.

Re: Eventide Orville & PT
I disagree... the unit is so modular you can just take off the dither on those progs and run em at 96k/

Re: Eventide Orville & PT
I never use the Orville at 96kHz, so my opinion may be of little use, but I would hate to work without the Orville. The programs are great, especially if you are looking for a processor that goes beyond the basics (e.g. reverb, chorus, etc.)

Re: Eventide Orville & PT
If you've got AES/EBU ports that you can dedicate to the Orville, using it as an insert is extremely handy.
The latency would depend on what you're doing. When practical, it's probably a good idea to set the Orville up on its own buss as an effect. Any complex DSP can add extra delay. Lee Blaske |

How about the TC6000? It seems that Lexicon and Eventide will never give out there code for plug-in use and to my ears they sound better than and plug-ins for PT.

Re: Eventide Orville & PT
Many of the Orville presets that are limited to 48k can be reprogrammed to work at 96k. I've accomplished this with the help of Scott Gilfix from Eventide who program a lot of it's presets. We took one of my favorite verbs, which runs on a single engine and is limited officially to 48k, and stuck the early reflections on engine A and the rest of the verb on engine B. It works great.
