Default M-AUDIO Fast Track Pro + OS 10.8.02 and now get digital screeching noise, why???

Hello, I upgraded my OS on my MBPro 17" this weekend to 10.8.2. Now my MB Fast Track Pro 4x4 has a screechy digital sound. Not white noise but a digital echo reverb screech.

I downloaded the latest drivers off of the Avid.com/drivers site and followed the steps to delete prefs, etc. That didn't work so I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers/app. It's still sounds bad.

Any ideas? It's not working with MP9, GarageBand or iTunes.

Thanks,

Tolbert

Did you use the software update or Combo update? Combo is much preferred. You repaired disk permissions?

I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it and also repaired disk permissions. Deleted the DAE folder and the other files listed in to delete in the Library folder.

I know it's something simple, but it's really frustrating.

What is the "Combo" update? Do you have a link?

Thanks!

I ran the Mac OS combo updater, repaired disc permissions, ran the uninstall and reinstall on the driver and it still sounds horrible.

It's stuck in some sort of digital noise loop.

Any ideas? Thanks,
Tolbert

What happens if you disconnect the Fast Track Pro and try to play a session through the onboard speakers? You might try resetting all your busses and IO to their defaults in the prefs. I'm running out of ideas. Hopefully someone more Mac centric will step in.

Is this noise present all the time or just when running PT?

I'm getting the noise through iTunes and GarageBand. I'm not even trying to open MP9 yet.

I tried some other headphones and it just sounds like a giant loop of digital screech.

Went back to Avid.com/drivers and downloaded and installed.

I'm ready to punt this thing! Maybe get back to my old Porta-Studio 4-track cassette - arrrggghh!

Forgot to mention that the built-in speakers and mic work just fine.

Hi,

Try going to the AMS (audio midi setup) and try to un-assign the built in microphone so it isn't set to an input!

Also try the same thing with any inputs? just try un-assigning them as inputs for now!

Sounds like it could be a feedback loop maybe!

Today I re-installed MP9 after sever times of updating the driver. Updated MP9 with the avid updater to MP9.5 and checked the AMS and the Fast Track is the i/o.

Still noisy. Arrrgghhh!!!

Have you tried a different USB cable? A different USB connection on the MB Pro? Do you have any USB-extenders or hubs in the chain?
