Default Izotope RX Loudness and Izotope Insight: Worth the purchase?

Hello,

As I have just been exposed to the products of Izotope, I am wondering: What is the value of Izotope RX Loudness and Insight, are the results of these programs producible without them, and what are your opinions on them? If it is possible to get the functionality of these programs without spending the money, how do I achieve these results?

My 2 cents only(so anyone should feel free to disagree). A couple of things to consider here:

1-do you NEED these products? Are you providing mixes for broadcast where this kind of detail is required? If yes, these are great, but if, like me, you do music production that ends up on CD, youtube and digital download, you really just need competent mastering. If budget permits, I always recommend using an experienced mastering engineer. If you must "self-master", Ozone is one of several solid mastering tools out there(I have tried it but did not buy it). Slate FGX is another(I have it but don't use it very often). What I choose to use(as much from habit as any other reason) is a chain of plugins(Fabfilter ProQ>Slate VTM>Waves L2>Waves L2). Yes, I listed L2 twice as I chain 2 together

2-with all the "cool tools" available, I think many of us get caught up in what a mix LOOKS like and forget to use the most important "tool" we have....our ears

Just food for thought

I agree with the previous 2nd post by albee1952.

I used the loudness control recently to deliver some project I produced the music can mix for.

If you need to know what they do?? Just download the fully function demos they have. That's the best ways and do your research. They have plenty of videos on their site and even more on YouTube channel.

Thank you for the replies.

When I was asking what they did, I should have added this: What do they do that one cannot already do by looking at what the standards are and keeping a mix within those requirements? I have looked at the programs intensely, while they do look like big time savers for media production. I am finding it hard to put up that amount of money for a fairly minimal time saver for me.

From your two posts, I am going to stick with my original thought: pass. There are plenty of other toys on my wish list :)
