Re: protools newbie needs advice
I'm a newbie with Pro Tools too (I have been using Sonar).
Did you buy the full Pro Tools 9 or the MP9 version? Avid lists some PC requirements although I installed MP9 on my Windows 7, 64 bit system without any problems. Here is a comparison chart and what is supported in each version http://www.avid.com/US/products/fami...-tools/compare Obviously you will need a MIDI interface unit, for MIDI input.

Re: protools newbie needs advice
If all you are doing is MIDI, then yes a MIDI interface is all you need. But if you want to also do audio (e.g. record a guitar, bass, drums, etc) then you will need an audio interface unit that also has MIDI.
If you have Pro Tools 9 you are not restricted to only Avid/MAudio interface units, you can use other vendors units. If you have MP9 version then you can only use Avid/MAudio interface devices. Here is an example of an MAudio unit that has two audio inputs plus midi http://www.americanmusical.com/Item-...FTRACKPRO-LIST

Re: protools newbie needs advice
Even if you only do midi stuff and don't need to record real instruments, you still might want to get an audio interface just for better sound quality, and hooking up monitor speakers, etc.
Otherwise you're limited to basic computer speakers. |
