8 Inputs 8 outputs. 4 of those inputs HAVE to be digital though. Two of the inputs can be the DI/mic ins on the front.

Also has a cue send for headphones.

Had to do ALOT of research to get those numbers unfortunately.

It is loads of physical "patchbay" inputs but ONLY 4 AD converters on the unit which means you can only use 4 analog inputs when recording, the remaining 4 have to be digital as mentioned above for a total of 8 inputs.

You can add additional HD converters (192's as well as newer HD I/O or MADI, etc.) for more I/O.

One of the main features of the omni is that it's a control room monitoring box as well as a stand alone interface. It can down convert (7.1/5.1 to stereo or even mono).
Could be a big deal for some and not for others.

yeah, i thinks is great, but not for me...i need more inputs for tracking, so...yeah kinda sucks...maybe it's good for mixing and just do some overdubs, but i'm building a new rig for my house, and sometimes i track drums and bass at same time, so...i need more inputs, but i can't afford the omni+8/8io, so if the apogee symphony works with hd native, i'll get one...for $5695+the hd native...

Why not get the HD I/O with the 8 x 8 or 16 x 16 configuration? Because of the bundles Avid offers, you'd save some money over the Apogee. But you'd still need a monitor controller. At least the Symphony gives you a volume knob and a couple of headphone jacks.

I think the Omni sounds better than the Symphony, which I used to have.
