Default Did I buy a used lemon HD I/O?

Solved: always remember to connect your cables correctly after moving stuff around.

I purchased a used AVID HD I/O 8X8X8 about three months ago that is just now giving me problems. My set up was working great until today when all of the record armed tracks in ProTools started producing a continuous clicky popping sound along with a fluctuation of the volume levels almost like a tremolo effect. This was happening on the analog inputs into the HD I/O as well as analog inputs on the Omni itself. When I turn off the HD I/O the problem disappears.

HD I/O sync mode stays on INT. I’ve set the clock source to the Omni in the hardware tab for both units. If I remember correctly I think it is supposed to light up as a “LOOP” because I have the Omni set as the master.

Digitest

Omni HD & HD I/O. Failed (screenshot att.)
Omni HD only. Passed
Cable swap (Omni to HD I/O). Failed with two different cables.

Update HD I/O firmware in Digitest successful. Still failed Digitest.
I didn’t try updating the Omni firmware. Both interfaces were showing they were at the most recent version.

I was wondering if it could just be the AD I/O slot #1 on the HD I/O but since it was causing problems on the HD Omni analog inputs as well I don’t know. Of course this is the first year I didn’t renew my service plan. Murphy’s Law at work. Did I buy a lemon? Anybody have any suggestions for what could be wrong?

Thank you!

Hi. You will need in addition to Digilink, 2 BNC cables.
Connect main Omni sync out to HD io Sync in.
Then HD io sync out to Omni sync in. (That is your Loop Sync)

Good God, my brain was fried last night, I removed the loop sync cable when moving the units. Always glad to find an easy fix even if it makes me feel like a dumbass!
