Default If your having spikes.....

I recommend adding as much ram as you can. This has probably been siad time and again, but do it.
I have a g5 dual 2.0ghz, it is plently fast enough for most demanding mixes, but has suffered from spikes, lost communication etc since I've had it which has been annoying.

Today I added 2gigs of ram and it hasn't spiked or lost contact once all day.

I tried maxing it with multiple instances of garritan and minimonsta and it stood up well i must say.

I am very happy with this.....

It may differ between different systems. I have a Powerbook G4 1.67GHz, and have maxed it out with 2GB of RAM, and I still suffer with CPU spikes.

i agree, I too have a maxed out powerbook and the memory didn't make a hell of a difference there.

However it seems that that was a cpu issue, whereas the dual g5 has plenty of power, adding the memory facilitates it to work better.

God knows why these issues haven't been sorted though. I would have thought that restricting interface options would make it easier for digi to produce a reliable native system.

Before everyone says "read troubleshooting guide", I like many others who use the DUC every day have done everything possible to get these spikes etc eradicated. It just doesn't cut it, and is not as bombproof as my old cubase on a pentium 3.

Still, today was a positive move for me and hopefully once 7.3c has been fully ironed out with the RTAS robustness thing, it'll only get better.
