Default Correct show length

My radio show needs to be exactly 24:00 long. Should the time code frame rate be set to drop frame, or non drop frame?

(I've searched the manual, DUC, and answerbase for info on this).

I do radio shows all the time. Mine need to be 27:00. I use Min.Sec. for my main counter for radio production. Are you taking audio from an existing film/video?
If so, IMO I would go non drop and I would still change main counter to min/sec select all and check "length" window.

If you need to use SMPTE instead of simple min/sec, 29.97 Drop would be the way to go. The "dropped frame" actually is a skipped number in the counting process, and it makes up for the fact that 29.97 does not equal 30.

Non drop is only used in situations where it is not very important to have the clock time be exactly the same as the SMPTE time. For example, a 30 second ad is not going to have accumalated much difference between the 29.97 non drop smpte display and the actual clock time.

Yes indeed 29.97 drop. The counting method of 29.97 drop-frame is to drop (skip) the first 2 frames ( fr 0 and 1 ) of every minute ,excluding any minute divisible by 10. ( as not to over compensate ). This sceme keeps the actual address readout within .01%(?) of 30fps.

For your peace of mind, you could always have your sub-counter set to min:sec....and reference that also.

Call me crazy, but why not just use straight 30fps? No reason to synchronize to NTSC, so why deal with 29.97 at all? No drop frame issues, no weird math....

But everyone else is right also.. Min:secs is easiest, and if you need to use SMPTE, do you need to use NTSC?

If you are taking the audio from film/video then use whatever frame rate to match audio with frames. If you are just delivering audio to a radio station don't even wory about timecode just use min/sec. my .02
