Default I have terrible distortion randomly! Help!

After a while using my PT 6.1 comes this terrible sound from ANY of the tracks I'm using, sometimes you have the normal sound, but suddenly it comes at a very very high volume, that distorts the sound. Sometimes the distortion is in a Muted track, so I don't realize until I see the meter!
As I said, the distortion can come from any track, I've heard it coming from an Audio Track, an Aux Input (with sound from a hardware sampler or from an internal bus), and from the Master Fader.
I'm using a G4 Dual at 1.25GHz, RAM: 1Gb, and two internal HD, system: 12Gb and Audio 80Gb. I have Digi 001 with PT 6.1, but this has been hapening since I got my new G4 and uppdated PT to 6.0 (and 6.0.1).
I would apreciate any kind of help, since at Digidesign Spain don't answer my mails.
Thank You.
VIC

Yes, I'm using waves.
And I've read your answer and downloaded the last Waveshell-DAE, wich is 4.0.1_x (not 4.1) and is suposed to fix some bug occured "when issuing rapid play/stop commands". I replaced the old 4.0 but the distorsion came after 2 minutes of loop playback and some play/stop.
Thank you anyway for those quick anwers.

That fixed it for me. Exact same problem, double check that this is only happening on tracks that use Waves plugs. Also double check that you installed the new Waveshell in the correct place, and put the other in the trash. This sounds too much like the waves bug for it not to be.

And yes, it comes from tracks with waves plug-ins. I'm writing to waves.support to see if they can help me,
Thank you byteme.

Go download the new 4.1 waveshell, at waves.com, for OS X and I am sure this will fix the problem.

It's OK, Byteme, I believe you!
They told me (from waves.support) to delete the waves preferences, so I did, and it worked!!
They also told me that waveshell 4.0.1_X is not made for my bug.
Thank you anyway, I didn't even think about the plug-ins until you told me!
Thanks, Bye!!

I wrote to Waves about this problem and the support wrote back saying there isn't any new waveshell. I replied telling tham that there is, I downloaded it and it fixed the problem.

I think some of their support staff isn't hip to the Waves/PT6 problem.
