Default Core Audio issues with new PTLE 7.4.2

Hey people,

Great to have PT on Leopard, so far, all working fine.

However, I've had a number of issues regarding using the Core Audio driver in stand alone mode. More often than not, when I switch my Mac on, the sound settings have gone back to Built-In Audio and won't let me change to 002.

The only way to rectify the problem, it seems, is to reinstall the driver almost every time I want to use it - for iTunes etc.

Any ideas?

After opening iTunes, launch the digi audio manager separately. Works for me.

Default Core Audio Not Working for Me Either

I am also having issues with CoreAudio. No iTunes playback or any other clients other than PT and Logic. Are most people having these problems or not?

Yep. I'm having Core Audio problems too - on a clean install. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Can't discern any pattern to it's failure. Core Audio possibly wasn't a high priority in the rush to get PT compatable with 10.5.4. Who knows?

I'm on MacBook/Leopard 10.5.4/PT LE 7.4.2

I've tried re-installing ProTools, opening Digi CoreAudio Manager before AND after opening iTunes, and tried going to Audio Midi Setup and switching the default device to Digi 002 both before and after opening iTunes. None of these things worked and I haven't been able to use Core Audio with iTunes at all through the 002.

I was having no problems with PT 7.4.2 and Mac OS 10.5.3 until I tried to use Audio Hijack last week. First I discovered that I needed to upgrade the version I had so it would work with Leopard. But after I did that I couldn't get iTunes to play at all. So I tried playing the audio file in Quicktime Player and while the transport seemed to be moving (unlike iTunes) I couldn't get any audio. I tried several other programs and found that Reason played throught the Core Audio driver but not Roxio Toast. I assume that Safari, Firefox and every other non-pro audio program I have is not being recognized by the Core Audio Driver. I talked with my dealer who said he had seen something on the list about this. And sure enough there are two or three threads, with many people having the same problems I'm having. I tried every fix suggested, including uninstalling PT and reinstalling the older version of 7.4.2 that had "expired" because the problems seemed to happen after I installed the "fixed" later version of 7.4.2. That didn't work either.

I'm not sure it was worth upgrading to Leopard to have these problems. Reminds me of PT 6 and the first core audio driver, which wouldn't work with any programs other than Pro Tools for several months. I hope Digi doesn't take as long to fix this bug. I pulled out the same old stereo mini to RCA cable to feed out of the computer's line out that I used 8 years ago to bypass the PT 6.0 problem. I love traveling back to the future.
