recording not passes with single audio track

Hello,

we need some good inputs for our worst case problem. During recording there are some disposal "CPU overload" messages. It doesen't matter if this is 1 track or 32 tracks.

to focus the problem I did following:

- replaced RAMs from different companys: kingston, apacer, mushkin
- I've tested RAMs and CPU with Prime95, Digicheck and so on > all tests passes
- I replaced the Nvidia 9xxxx with a Matrox graphic card.
- made new sessions on a second hard drive, instead system drive.
- replaced the second hard drive with a SSD hard drive
- installed PT on the SSD drive, streamed audio files form the system drive and inverse.
- checked out all buffer sizes and performance tweeks in PT with Avids "check list"
- disabled network drivers, disabled BIOS chipsets like audio cards, network functionality and so on.
All other PCIe/PCI cards removed (UAD-Solo and RME 9632).

I really reached my limit... What can I do?

CPU: Intel Q9550 @ 3.4 GHz with E0 stepping (stable @ 800 Mhz FSB)
RAM: 4 GB Mushkin RAMs (stable @ 800 Mhz FSB)
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R
HD: RAID 10 with 4 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.11, 7200rpm, 32MB, 1TB
HD: OCZ SSD Vertex 2 Extended Cap. 60GB
PT HD2 with PCIe Cards, 2 I/O 96 Interfaces

Pro Tools does not supoort RAID arrays.

I read that before, and I guess you are right. Do you think I should rebuild my system drive without any RAID array, with PT on it, and the sessions on the SSD?

I would break things down to basics as part of troubleshooting. Install a single system drive and a single recording drive and test. If that works, then stay conventional. I would consider an SSD for system, but from my reading, they are not a great choice for recording as they have limited write capability9someone correct me if this is wrong).

I have used the SSD on all the above and frankly at this point the only placement I find to be ULTRA useful is the VI library use. I.E. the samples for all my east West Pianos and Ni sounds etc....

As far as SSD's (solid state drives) goes, anything that is going to be mostly read only, will have a definite benefit from the ssd access time and overal read speed. But, you can get a very good (if not better general) result with the Western Digital VelociRaptor too. it's 10 k rpm will give you a very good read/write speed for tracking and recording. Plus they ain't that expensive for a 300 gb HD. I bought my 3 HD's for 600$ Will be putting them in my next build for sure. There's also the 600 gb at 10 k rpm for 330$ so ain't bad either.

They are slighty more noisy than some other drive due to having a much higher rpm, but if your comp is not in the same room as your control room, then it shouldn't be a problem. You could always put the tower into a shilled sound proof box.

If money isn't an issue.. you could always go for the cheetah 600 gb at 15 k rpm... but hmm getting overkill there I think.. although faster read/write is always better.

The Velociraptor on your link is 10 bucks more than what I paid (before tax) for each of mine, but still nice.

But the cisco.. way over price compared to the Cheetah which is at 600 GB and only 600$ Unless I'm missing something?

after some troubleshooting weeks I figured out the problem:
it was my mainboard...

I bought a brand new mac and now I have no problems at all with my SSD. It's not topic relevant but the sound quality rised up as well. Hppy Hppy!
