Default is 10,000 rpm drive better then 7200 rpm drive?

Hello

I'm debating whether there would be a significant boost if i change my system drive from a WD 7200rpm to a Raptor 10,000rpm?

Thanks in advance!
Gary

Raptors make good boot drives. Use one myself. It's not a huge difference over a good 7200RPM drive, but it's noticeably snappier.

They do make a bit more noise. Think late model Cheetah. A soft whine with a bit of head crunching.

personally, I think it's overkill

unless things have changed, I remember 10,000 rpm drives also costing a lot more per GB than 7200 rpm drives

and when used, it's more for a huge library of music that you're constantly accessing or tracking to than for an OS.

Once you boot the computer, as long as you have enough RAM, a 7200 rpm drive is absolutely fine. Heck, even a 5400 SATA drive like in the macbook pros is not a problem at all for the OS

just my opinion, but I say spend your hard-earned money elsewhere

Thanks a lot for the replies.

Noise is certainly an issue for me.
As for loading sound libraries, I do have sound libraries and they're stores into a 500GB 7200rpm drive which had worked fine so far, so I don't think that I'll waste money on that.

So i guess I'll stick with 7200rpm ones, Thanks a lot guys!
