I've done a few sessions lately with a Rosetta 200 as the front end on an LE rig. Frankly, I like how it sounds better than my 192 (everything else in the chain is the same). Can anyone tell me the reasons I shouldn't make the switch? Thx ahead of time!!!

I cant tell you anything else than this. If in a blind test you were able to pick the rosetta from the 192 then you should go with the rosetta. If you cant pick in a blind test then it would be a waste of good old money
![]() I have rosetta 800 myself and I am quite happy with them. They sound really nice. A colleague of mine has 3 192 and I think they sound somewhat harsher than my rosettas.

FWIW, I had a Rosetta and sold it over my 192. When you get to this level they all sound good, plus when ADC comes into play the 192 is made for the sys.. The guy down the street has an Aurora 16 and I think my mixes sound better than his..

The Rosetta 48/96 and the Rosetta 200/800 are different beasts. I agree, the 192 is as good or better than the older Rosetta 96, but the Rosetta 200 is a big improvement over it's little brother, and IMO the 192 as well. I'm assuming you either had the older Rosetta or you prefer the harsher sound of the 192 (not being a smart ass - the smoother sound of a Rosetta doesn't automatically make it better, just different).
To the OP - if it isn't clear already, I prefer the Rosetta 200/800 to the 192. |

Thx for the feedback everyone. I'm not one to get caught up in AB-ing gear. Frankly, I usually don't care what I'm using as long as it sounds good enough to me to translate the performance. But, in this case, I cut some vocals, guitars (acoustic) and piano with the same mic-pre-compressor chain through both converters and I was much more pleased by the tracks that went through the Rosetta 200 (a new one). I wasn't listening for a difference. I wasn't thinking about one. But, I was caught off guard and struck by what I found to be the noticeably better sound of the Rosetta.

Hi Bambison,
Unlike mic pre's, it is pretty easy to do an A/B on convertors, and recently I A/B'd the Rosetta 200 and 192 as the A/D for recording a mix from an SSL, and I liked the 192 better. They simply sound different, and as Eric said, the Apogee was probably smoother, which on the rock song I was mixing, didn't sound as good as the 192. BTW - I was clocking both of them to a Big Ben.

Converters are a tricky thing. I did a session recently where we needed more inputs than I had on my 192 HD setup so we brought in our old Radar 24 machines and ran 48 channels into them and then out to our PT rig via lightpipe.
Man! It sounded fantastic! I know those are older converters but they are smooth and dynamic in a different way than the 192. I've never used the Rossetta but I've heard nice things about it. I guess so much of it just subjective listening on your part when it gets up into the high end converters. I am a firm believer in Blind A/B tests. Listening blind can be "very" revealing and it immediately eliminates any doubt about which converter you think sounds better. Your preconceived ideas about which piece of gear should be better will always cloud your judgment. Always. Good Luck! Chad
