I just bought a second hand Aja io4k TB2 (not the current io4k+ with thunderbolt 3) for quite cheap on eBay. Works great with an Apple TB2-TB3 adapter on a MacBook Pro 2009 i9. The fan does have a bit of noise, but not a jet engine. Unfortunately the fan noise is slightly tonal, which I'm not crazy about. I wonder if it would be possible to replace it with a silent fan? Considering the size of the unit and the fact that everything inside is almost definitely surface mount, I doubt it.
