Default Vocal mic help

I'm considering the Rode NT1 based on hearing good things about it. Any other recommendations, or at least what to A/B it against when I go test it out? Something in the same class.

By the way, this will be used mostly by a male hip hop artist(tenor) and female singer(alto).

Also, is there anything else I need with a condensor mic? Special chords, ect. I'd like to sound like I know what I'm talking about.

well i have an NTK, and love it.
to compare, just go to GC, look for other mic's in the same price range, and compare..
obviously, you don't compare a 200 mic with a 1000 dollar mic...

I currently own an NT1, and have been pretty disappointed in it. I bought an AKG C2000 at the same time, and I find I use it a lot more, on instruments and vocals (if there isn't something better, ie: rented, around). I find the NT1 to be quite boxy and woody, with little presence.

For the price, AKG and Studio Projects C1 are much better options.

The NTK is an unbelievable mic for the price though. I used it in a couple sessions where it easily outperformed the Neumann TLM 103, Studio Projects C1 and AudioTechnica ATM 4040.

I just purchased the rode nt1000 and have been happy with the sound of this mic, gives my voice and full sound with very little brightness on top. For the price I'm very happy with this mic. Probably a good go between if you cant afford the ntk.
