Default configuring cards in new Mac Pro

I'm helping out some composers setup a new PT HD system in their studio this weekend.

It's on a new Mac Pro 8-core (one that they say has Tiger)

Anything I need to know about the new PCI-E cards and the order in which they go into the slots in the new machines?

I imagine they are getting a core card and 1 or 2 accels

or maybe an accel can act as a core card now or something?

anyways, anything to look out for or help with configuring?

gracias mucho

The Getting Started guide makes it very clear. However, what it doesn't is how difficult it is to get the cards into the the Mac Pro. You'll notice they're a bit long.

I'll be installing a card this weekend as well, after having given up in short time and frustration a few days ago. Let us know how it goes.

well thank you for asking

order of cards isn't any different than previous systems (i learned from reading the manual)

the first Accel core card went in pretty much no problem, but man, that second accel card was a serious pain to get in. ALL four hard drive bays must be pulled out in order to have room to maneuver the additional 2 accel cards into their positions. and even then, it's really not very easy

GO SLOW! of course one should always go slowly when doing anything (a lesson learned long ago) but especially in this situation

don't force anything and be patient

the design is really upsetting though. even a small fraction of an inch of more space (either shorter card or more space in the mac pro) would make it much much easier.

nonetheless, I got the entire thing up and running. HD3 Accel on a 8-core 3 GHz Mac Pro. PT 7.4 16 GB of RAM and 4 hard drives.

the ram and hard drives are the easiest things to install ever......the mac pro is seriously one of the most easily serviceable machines ever. there's not even a plastic guard inside past the main door like there is on my G5 tower.

very very nice machine. and it's gonna smoke.

Good to hear it worked out.

Sounds like a serious machine, for sure.

Hi Severe,
I am trying to track down the presets for Metric halo 2.0 and see that you previously offered to help a member out. I have the plugin running in Logic but without the presets. If you can help I'd be very grateful. Cheers mate.
