Default PT9 Crossgrade Pricing Questions

Does anyone know if the price of the crossgrade from PT8 to PT9 is permanent or if it's a promo for purchasing and installing this year only?

I have PT8 LE running with an MBox Mini, and I'm considering upgrading to PT9 because of the flexibility of working with other interfaces and mixing on a laptop. Problem is, I think I will need a new laptop. Believe it or not, I'm currently running 8 LE on an Asus netbook with XP Home . I highly doubt that it will support PT9.

Anyway, I'm still researching suitable machines and was considering holding off on purchasing one after the holidays and hope to get a deal on an older model. So, I want to know if I have purchase and install the cossgrade now, or if I can do it next year. I would prefer if someone from Avid could clarify.

I'd love to know the same thing, my Uni has an HD8 studio that they won't be upgrading and I'm currently running sessions between my LE 8 at home and HD 8 at Uni. I plan on upgrading to 9 after this year at Uni.

The wording is 'little' confusing it looks like the PIEP deal goes away after Dec 17th the current upgrade prices are established as they are today.
Anyway that's how I read the email I got from AVID.

Off topic, but: I tried to install PT9 on my XP laptop. It popped up a dialog indicating that version 9 isn't supported and installation is at your own risk but it appeared that it would allow install. I couldn't complete the install because the installer checks the amount of RAM and I only had 1 GB (needs 2 GB). There was at least one post somewhere that indicated they were successfully running PT9 under XP.

It clearly states in the posted documents that PT 9 requires Windows 7, and doesn't work with XP or Vista. One or two people who've somehow (supposedly) installed PT 9 on XP machines doesn't mean it'll work.
More times that not, it won't load unless w7 is detected.

If the PTLE upgrade was a time limited offer they would almost certainly note that in the offer to spur sales during the promotion period. I think that its probably a permanent offer.
