Default New upgrade to 7.2HD PROBLEMS

I have an HD Accel 3 w/96 I/O and 882/20 on Legacy port. Mac OS 10.4.8 running on a single 800mHz G4 with 512 mb RAM, firewire video, internal, firewire, and SCSI drives. I upgraded my OS to "Tiger", then upgraded Pro Tools to 7.2. I am having serious problems.

1. Crashes during record. I have 85% CPU allocated. During recordings, of any track count, the computer crashes and leaves behind unreadable audio files with Quicktime icons that are corrupted. After forced restart sessions open with all effects sends up to 0dB on all tracks. Very embarassing and bad for business.

2. MIDI performance is horrible. On midi passages of even moderate speed and complexity, driving any instrument (virtual or hardware), the performance is jerky and unmusical. Have tried importing midi and instrument tracks to new session with moderate success.

3. Spinning wheel on import. Every time I try to import audio (something I need to do very frequently) I get the spinning wheel for about 2 min. after I import.

4. Spinning wheel after Audisuite preview. Every time I preview an Audisuite process, of any length, I get the spinning wheel for 1-2 minutes after I stop the preview.

Please advise via email to [email protected]

Thanks,

Shaun

this is something i'm experiencing consistently as well. i have a g5, tons of ram, just did this upgrade and am crashing about 10 times a day. granted, i'm using video and some heavy plugins (stylus, in particular), but i didn't have these problems pre-upgrade. ironic, i realize. anybody have advice on this?

I hate to tell you this but, your computer is WAAYYYY to slow to run 7.2 and the amount of RAM you have needs to at least be tripled.

I was running a G4 single processor 1.25 with 1.75 GB RAM and it was not enough. So I bought a used Dual 2.5 G5.

512 MByte RAM is the very minimum to run the OS and some apps that don't require more RAM. 800 MHz G4???
I remember that my last G4 DUAL 2GHz was slow for me. You need a faster Mac like a Dual G5.
