Default Elastic audio without snapping to grid

Hi Guys,

Another "newbie" (to Pro Tools) question I am hoping you will be able to help with...

I have been learning how to use elastic audio in Pro Tools (it seems conceptually more or less the same as Logic's Flex Time). For some reason, my elastic audio edits are always snapping to the grid.

I have clicked the "Grid" button in the transport bar so that it is un-highlighted, however my edits are still snapping to whatever note division I have selected as my grid value.

I would be grateful if anyone could provide some help with this one!

Cheers,
Mike

The Grid button in the transport? That's not what you want, that shows and hides the grid. What editing mode are you in? Shuffle, Spot, Slip or Grid(Relative Grid)?

Try putting it in Slip mode.

Chapter 40 of the PT11 .pdf manual also goes over Elastic Audio.

Hope that help.

Thanks Brian,

That's a great help! For some reason I thought that the Grid button referred to the snap-to grid, not the visibility of the grid on the screen!

Thanks for this info, I will check which editing mode I was using and go from there!

Cheers,
Mike

While we are on this subject, there's a really handy shortcut you should remember. Since using GRID mode is quite handy, especially when trimming, using EA and such, holding the Ctrl key will allow temporary SLIP mode while GRID mode is selected

Thanks Dave,

Yep - there are always times when you're set up for snap to grid and you need to suspend this temporarily.

Thanks heaps for pointing out this shortcut!

Cheers,
Mike
