I've got a small PT rig which I've used in the past for recording live gigs.
It's a Digi 003 with a Macbook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo w/ 4 Gb of ram running Pro-Tools 8.0 on Apple OS 10.5.5 I need to use it to do a little project which involves midi, and I'm finding midi isn't getting into the computer. The green activity light on the 003 is flashing, but when putting a midi track in record and assiging the proper input the track I'm not getting anything. To my recollection, I've never gotten midi to work in the 2 or 3 years I've had it, but it was never an issue before. I updated the 003 Firmware using the existing updater that came with the package when I bought it oh so long ago. (It asked me in a prompt if I wanted to update it.) That hasn't done the trick. So my big question for the knowledgeable type on the forum: Did I miss installing some driver when I initially set Pro-Tools up the computer? And if I did, what drivers, firmware and other updates do you recommend me using so Pro-Tools will start seeing midi? Any immediate (and "correct") information is greatly appreciated. |

Is 10.5.5 actually compatible w/PT8?
I seem to remeber PT requiring at least .7 or .8. Could be that. I think the OS is quite involved when it comes to MIDI. EDIT: I was wrong. It's compatible: Avid compat. info

Have you checked your MIDI configuration in Setup in ProTools?

Also, I have had trouble with MIDI when I didn't have everything connected before starting the computer and PT.

There's a small and free program out there that I have found quite useful, Midi Monitor. This tell you just exactly what your computer is receiving into its MIDI port, and it's helped me quite a bit in times like these. It helps you get your settings right.

Yes, I have. The icon for the Digi 002 & 003 were in there. (I have both.)
BTW, that is really a Mac set up. It exists on the MacIntosh HD \ Utilities \ Audio and Midi Set up. I did plug in a midi keyboard via USB, and I was able to trigger midi successfully in Garage Band, but not Pro-Tools. Again, I haven't spent any time using midi with PT 8, so there may be something basic I'm overlooking. Unless I hear something authoritative about a specific driver fix, a re-install may be my next tap dance. |
