Default Can't install Pro Tools 8 LE on Windows 7

Hey guys, a friend of mine has just got a new Windows 7 machine and is trying to install Pro Tools rather urgently. I told him about the new drivers etc. but here's his story:

1. Pro Tools 8 won't install, a C++ error appears at the end of installation.
2. Pro Tools 8.0.3 can't install as it needs PT 8 to be installed.
3. The new drivers can't install because they need PT 8 to be installed.

The machine is a Sony Vaio and the interface is an Mbox 2 Mini, he's tried uninstalling, reinstalling, everything under the sun, but can't get it to install.

Any help would really be great.

Thanks in advance

Cheers

What exactly does the error say? Where is he installing from - CD? Try downloading the installer from your My Digi account. Also, you might want to post a SANDRA report.

I dont have the exact message to hand but it says that it requires Windows XP or Vista for install. I'll get back with the report and details later. Any ideas why its saying this though?

I had the same problem.
1. I have installed windows 7 on my PC.
2. I have started installation on it. It was almost done when I had a blue screen with the countdown from 100 to 0 (or from 0 to 100 don't remember exactly) and restarted itself.
3. I tried to install 8.0.3 but it needs PT 8.0
4. When I tried to install 8.0 again it said that program installation will run only on XP or Vista.

Any suggestions?

Install XP. Not being a smart-ass here - LE in Windows 7 is a crap shoot. It's far more stable in XP.

Angry Re: Can't install Pro Tools 8 LE on Windows 7

I own a MBox2 and I also have issues installing both Pro Tools 7.4 and 8.0 on Windows 7 and can't seem to find any real solutions to this most frustrating problem. I tried calling Tech Support only to be greeted with a message saying Tech Support is not available. Can someone from Digidesign or Avid PLEASE DO SOMETHING TO FIX THIS? Thank you.

Man... I did not go to sleep until 3am last night because I was toiling with Windows 7 and an Mbox 2. I guy referred to me calls me up to get assistance on getting his midi working. There was an issue with the Mbox 2 sending out midi beat clock to his MPC and M3. Easy enough, right?

Well, I get there and the guy has just bought a new "snazzy" Gateway PC with...Windows 7, and an Mbox 2 with ProTools 8. So, I remember seeing folks having success with the USB interfaces on here. No problem, right?

With simply 8 installed, the Mbox midi ports didn't even show up in the beat clock dialogue. So, I follow the Digi installation instructions for 8.0.3 and the beta drivers. Guess what? After all that, midi beat clocks works! But, now something else is amiss.

Beat clock is working, but now the playback is super distorted. Uninstall, reinstall, try again... Same thing...

Uninstall, reinstall 8.0 only... Playback is fine again, but the midi beat clock issue is back. I told him before we began I would help him as best I could, but the bottom line is he was screwed probably. Should have stayed with XP...

This was literally a post from the DUC come to life on my buttocks. Windows 7, ProTools, USB audio drive, bloated PC, guy who thinks it should've just worked cause the guys as the local PC store here (CompUSA) said it would... Cue ProTools bashing...

Nightmare.

Though, like many say, its up to the consumer to research what they are spending their coin on, especially the amount he spent, it was different sitting in a room with that consumer and listening to them speak about it. I couldn't really say anything without making it seem like he was stupid. He was just a musician who wanted to make music...
