Default how to get the mixer to display level in decibels?

In cubase, at the bottom of each fader there is a level readout. Eg: at the bottom of the faders, it might say -10db, etc........

How would i get the faders in pro tools le to display a numerical value?

The numerical value you can see just dB. If you press control + left mouse button you can change the value to peak, latency or dB.

huh? the faders only show a green bar to represent the level.......i see no numberical level in display which resperent the actual volume of the wav being played.........eg: in cubase if the wav file on one track is actually playing at -30db, the fader numerical value will show this automatically...

I think what he means is, how to get the meters themselves to numerically show dB. Some DAWs have a numerical gradient beside the LED meters so that you can see the levels numerically and some go one step further by showing the peak level at the top of the meter. While you can display the dB as mentioned, this dB only shows the level the fader is set at. There is no way I know of to have Pro Tools numerically show the changing dB of the signal as it's recorded or played back. One work around is to have a plug-in inserted and displayed that doesn't affect the signal, but does have a numerical gradient.

Cheers,

Yes!!! This is exactly what i am saying! I'm very dissapointed there is no way you can do this....almost all other DAWS have this function.

I mean how can u tell if your master fader is cliping my a tenth of a db? Sure the red light might come on for a second......but that's not sufficient if the signal is just barely clipping....what happens if i want a mix that just peaks at exactly -3.0 db.......there's no way to do this? (without using external plugs) ???
