Hi Darryl,

All of my analog processing works perfectly fine; no alignment issues at all.

Thanks

Janne maybe off tucking the Reindeer into bed.

The “normal” way to do this would be to place hardware and/or software inserts onto an aux track and feed that from your send. Of course you can do whatever works for you but you will likely find things work better if you are using hardware inserts, especially ans things get more complex, and will be clearer to folks you might need to collaborate with.

Ha ha ha...
I'm probably missing this. Do you mind walking me through what you're suggesting Step 1, Step 2...

I do need a method to adjust the send level to this reverb.

I appreciate your time!

Great. And I like you have all Apollo gear to make this work more simply (consistent latency on all IO). You may still be getting lucky if doing out and back signal paths instead of hardware inserts. Outboard devices just in an input path like preamps, EQ etc. are all compensated for without ADC just like all input latency. And OTOH latency might just not matter with reverbs and delays.

I’ll send you a screen shot of doing this when back at a computer… hour or so…

Hardware Insert and Software Insert (plugin) work 100% same way as far as mixer is concerned. If you can have fader for software reverb just replace the plugin insert with hardware insert that is connected to your hardware reverb.

^^^ And two easy ways to route this. If this is not clear shout. Were all happy to explain stuff more.

First set up your insert, here a mono insert and we give it a name...

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GYe...ew?usp=sharing

Here I have an audio track with a recording on it, and I'm just setting the output of that track to the input of an aux input track. I have a Deesser software plugin on audio track and the hardware insert that was custom named above on the aux input track.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VZ0...ew?usp=sharing

Now look at the ADC values... The DeEsser plugin has no latency, and AMS RX16 insert we named is adding 2141 samples of latency (at 48 kHz) that is 2 x 1024 samples for the disk playback buffers and 93 samples for ADC and DAC converter latency and some other overhead in the driver.

Or if you can route via sends, which you might well prefer/be more flexible for a reverb/delay bus setup. Here I just have a send going to that Aux input track.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xzA...ew?usp=sharing

With the flexibility of being able to control pre/post fader sends you can control whether the fader on the audio track affects the signal going to the hardware insert or not (you would likely normally want it to). And again ADC is being applied to correct for latency in getting out/into that hardware insert. Remember Pro Tools signal flow is described in the Reference Guide or see this handy cheat sheet: https://www.reddit.com/media?url=htt...5611ac0fc2cc78

Since you have a digital box here there will be additional latency in that box, if that is important to you you correct that by entering the additional latency due to the AMS box in the Setup > IO > HW Insert latency field for that insert #. Neve should spec that but I could not find a latency with a quick Google search, but you can measure it with a click test (do all that with ADC enabled and measure the offset between a click on an audio track with the H/W insert on that track and recording that track output into another audio track). I don't think this box has digital I/O options, but if it does then the ADC corrected values for that digital I/O will be somewhat off to start with.

As Janne says the really nice thing about operating like this is hardware inserts behave like software inserts, Pro Tools is just behaving like an old school console with all hardware inserts. You can quickly bypass inserts, reorder signal flow between software and hardware inserts by just dragging them around in the insert slots, easy to A/B stuff, easy to freeze/commit stuff, and it's kinda self-documenting what is going on when you name inserts for the device on them, you get ADC delay compensation (although that needs UI/UX improvements).

Default Re: Unable to Create an Aux Bus Send to Reverb

Just to restate what has been said with some more screen shots

I have my hardware FX set up as Hardware Inserts.

My HW Reverb unit is always set up on it's own Aux Track and I send to it from other tracks .
That way I can send from multiple tracks to that single HW Reverb

I have the Aux Track set at unity gain and on the HW unit itself set at 100% wet.... Then I just adjust the amount of send from the various tracks for the amount of effect I want and they can all be different amounts

Now both my FX are 2 channel so I have them set up on stereo tracks
(note) I always label the effect, the send bus, and the aux track itself with the same label so in this case it is M7 for my Bricasti M7 Reverb unit

So here is the Input window the M7 is on 7&8

Same on Output widow

Here you can see the M7 Aux track itself dark Purple track is at unity gain (light blue arrow) and the Lead Vocal track send fader (magenta labeled Ld Vox is at -10.5 (yellow arrow )

Here you can see I am sending from 5 tracks to the Aux track

Just a personal preference; for reverb and delay, I would NOT set them up as hardware inserts. I would send out via physical output(or outputs)to the hardware, and return the hardware back thru physical inputs. Just a holdover from decades of analog setups.
