Default Unable to Create an Aux Bus Send to Reverb

All,

I use a lot of external hardware in my Pro Tools (2024.6.0) sessions but I just took delivery of the Neve RMX16-500 Series reverb and am unable to send to it using an Aux Send.

I have an open ticket with Neve and they are saying I can use it this way versus sending to the RMX with a Send > Output then selecting the interface port connected to the RMX. I hope this makes sense to you.

I use four UA Apollo's Interfaces and connect all external hardware using two Switchcraft 9625 patch bays.

In IO Setup I created a Bus #36 to represent the port in the patchbay I am using to send to the RMX. I then mapped port 36 to the Interface that is connected to the patchbay yet when I go to the track in Pro Tools I want to send from port 36 is not visible.

Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated.

How you are supposed to do it is creating a hardware insert. It means matching IO numbers.

Thanks for the reply - if I do that will I be able to adjust the send amount? I use hardware inserts all the time for Compressors, EQ's etc but not tried it for effects.

Of course. Hardware insert makes the send/return appear like a plugin, only a hardware version of such, and PT would latency compensate for it.

If you do it sending to your external and recording the output, there will never be compensation.

OK I'll give that a shot - thanks.

Just so that I'm clear on this I would go to IO Setup > Inserts and since is is already populated with a Stereo Path of Insert 35-36, I should delete that and create two Mono paths; 35 and 36 and then on my tracks select Insert > I/O and use 36 (where it is patched?

Appreciate your thoughts!

You can have stereo insert for 35-36 and then sub-paths for 35 and 36. Depending on whether you are using it on stereo or mono channel it will show you proper option.

I've uploaded a couple more images. Do I need to delete the existing Stereo Path 35-36 and recreate as two mono paths?

Thank you!

No. Create new sub-paths for mono channels.

Likewise if you have for example 5.1 aux you can set Quad, LCR, LR and individual mono channels for the same numbers.

... and if you have not been seeing time alignment with how you are using external hardware before... make sure ADC is enabled, it applies latency correction for hardware inserts as it does for software inserts. You should see that hardware insert latency shown in the ADC display in the mix window. With your all Apollo setup this should likely just work OK. But it's a good idea to do a click test on an audio track, routing that though the inserts on that track using just a cable/null insert and record the output on another audio track and confirm the clicks line up. Best to line up/measure between signal zero crossings and if working perfectly should be within a sample or so... even if you don't need it so accurate.

Hi Freak!

When I do that and then select Insert > IO and Insert 36 there is no fader available to adjust. I do need that. I guess I'll go back to using it via Send > Output and selecting the correct intercase tied into the Reverb.
