Default Audio Tracks greyed out in PT Intro

Hello,

I have shared a PT session file (.ptx) recorded in PT Studio (2024) with my band member who is using PT Intro. The Instrument Tracks open just fine in PT Intro, but the Audio Tracks are greyed out. She has reset to default the I/O etc, and the Playback Engine seems correctly set, so we're puzzling over why the Audio Tracks remain greyed out. Probably something obvious, but any help much appreciated!

Thanks!

Assuming you both have different audio interfaces.
Are those tracks routed to output on your band member's audio interface? If it is routed to an "unmapped" (one that is still set to your hardware) it will be greyed out until changed to a valid output.

This is different from "default" i/o. On the bus page of the i/o, is the output the audio track is using mapped to a hardware out on that page. If not, change it.

Indeed, yes, different interfaces. We'll try that, thank you!

Not having much luck with this. All the tracks in the session are mapped to the output on the interface, and the instrument tracks play back correctly, but the *audio* tracks are still greyed out....puzzling....

Screenshots might help, IO Output and bus pages, and mix window showing IO selectors. Post to a photo or file sharing site and post the links here.

Did you default the IO before doing what BScout suggested? on the input, output and bus pages select all paths and click Delete, then click Default, check that on the bus page you have busses mapped to outputs and reselect those in the audio track IO output selectors. Sometimes you end up with close/duplicate names which is why you want to delete existing paths.

If that is not it, it might be a corrupted session, try save copy in, or importing content into a new session on the collaborators computer.

I expect if any of the track content was missing or track widths were incompatible, or some other incompatibility with Pro Tools intro or plugins were missing then that would not give this behavior, and Pro Tools Intro would clearly complain/throw up on the session or just delete your work, cough, like usual. But to be sure what happens if you open that session on your collaborators computer using your iLok for licensing? And on your computer using Intro?

Computer and Pro Tools version info for both systems?

Couple of questions;
1-are both systems running PT Intro?
2-if yes, are you certain the audio files are sitting in the audio files folder(and not missing)?
3-how many audio tracks in the session, and how many are grey'd out?

I've found that even if the IO page has been reset to default and all looks correct you may still need to reselect the output assignments of the channels in question.

Which is something that first deleting all paths then defaulting IO can help avoid... you are the forced to select new bus/output paths in the output selectors, with all choices normally being valid.

Obviously the tradeoff here is you delete custom named busses which may be an awful thing, but for troubleshooting the current issue with a presumably simple session worth trying. If nothing else you can see how the IO paths should look then manually add/remove stuff in future to leave most stuff in place.

Fixed! Many thanks everyone for your help. Some audio files were indeed missing, restored them from session backups, all working fine now!
