PT10.3.6 "Could not complete the Open Session... command"
System: Win7 64bit Ultimate, Dell Precision M4700, Saffire Pro40
Installed today... PT10 and PT11 seemed to work fine first, testing opening and playing a few old projects and creating a test project on PT11. But now PT10 is giving an error message when I try to open any old session, either ptx or ptf. "Could not complete the Open Session... command because while translating Tracks" PT11 opens and plays these same ptx projects (with some plugins disabled of course). Although in PT10 I can create a new project, which I then can also open. I tried a repair install on PT10 which did not help, but a repair install on PT11 helped... but only temporarily. Now the problem came back. I also tried importing session data to a new empty PT10 project, but the session data import fails with the same error message. So is it uninstall and back to older PT version to wait for bugfixes? Cheers |

Re: PT10.3.6 "Could not complete the Open Session... command"
Well, uninstalled everything, both PT and iLok. And back to 10.3.2. Projects open fine again. A day wasted...

Re: PT10.3.6 "Could not complete the Open Session... command"
Tried a clean install of PT11 and PT10.3.6 today... same problem comes back:
Cannot open old projects with 10.3.6 because of the same error message. And PT11 opens these projects, but to no use as I cannot use the plugins in the projects because they are not AAX yet. Anyone have an idea what this is about? The tracks shouldn't be corrupt because PT11 opens them and in older PT10 these projects work fine. Also... this happens with ALL of my old PT10 projects. So currently I cannot have PT10 and PT11 running on the same machine because PT11 doesn't allow older PT10 versions than PT10.3.6, which doesn't open my old projects. So the only way to continue working with my old projects is by going back to an older PT10 which of course means uninstalling PT11. Great! |

Re: PT10.3.6 "Could not complete the Open Session... command"
Found a workaround (I think)
If I create a new session in PT 10.3.6, I can get the Import Session Data to function if I import a few tracks at a time. (I got an error message there also, but chose smaller amount of tracks and could continue) When I tried to import all tracks at once, I got the same error as when trying to open the project. So if you run into the same problem: - Create an empty project in PT 10.3.6 - Import tracks a few at a time - Save project Somewhat annoying but it seems to work. PS. I know this is the PT11 thread, but the PT 10.3.6 goes hand in hand with PT11 and I don't have this problem with older PT10 only on my machine. |

Re: PT10.3.6 "Could not complete the Open Session... command"
I had this issue with a song originally created in 10.2. Opened it in PT11 and tweaked it a bit and added an instance of Xpand.
I got the error when trying to re-open it in 10.3.6. It still opened fine in 11 so deleted the Xpand instrument track and it then opened OK in 10.3.6. Added Xpand back in there & reopened (& saved) in 11 and it's been fine in both versions since. Did you have instrument tracks in your session or Xpand? Might be worth trying to find a commonality.

Re: PT10.3.6 "Could not complete the Open Session... command"
I mostly use Xpand for composing and guide tracks for vox etc. So yes, most of my projects have Xpand.
But I remember I also tried a recent acoustic project with few audio tracks only plus click and reverb (on aux). I think the click track actually counts as an instrument, or? So I don't think I can find any projects completely clean of instruments in that case. The projects are last saved in PT10.3.2 or earlier, i.e. also PT9 and some in PT8. I have not tried yet if installing PT11.0.1 helps anything, will update this evening probably. A recent thread with the same problem description, but with PT11 demo: http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=341067 |

It is still happening with or without xpand. There is a compatibility issue
somewhere. |

Re: PT10.3.6 "Could not complete the Open Session... command"
Just installed 11.0.1, does not help.
The symptom is the same: PT10.3.6 opens old projects at first, but as soon as I run PT11 once, then PT10.3.6 stops opening old projects, crashing with the mentionend error message. |

Re: PT10.3.6 "Could not complete the Open Session... command"
I was able to get around this error by uninstalling and then reinstalling the virtual instruments. This does seem to be expand2related and permissions to it. One of the errors I got when getting this error was if I opened a blank project and added Expand2 I would get a security violation error.
The uninstall and reinstallation of the instruments from the 10 version seemed to take care of it. IHTH. |

Re: PT10.3.6 "Could not complete the Open Session... command"
Hi. I also had this Xpand2 issue with PT10/11 some days ago with a older session. "Solved" it by using Import Session Data from the File menu.
Import failed on a Xpand2 track, so I just avoided importing that specific track. I managed to import all the rest of the tracks. I don't know why it happened. Did you try importing session data? |
