Default Re: The Operating System held of Interrupts for TOO LONG Message - Please Help

Well I've never had this before.

I have amplitube working ok after assigning 5 processors in the playback engine settings dialogue.

I then put ozone 4 in to the plugins folder and after a few minutes I got theis message which I have never had before.

Everything was greyed out in pro tools except this message.

It said, You need to restart your computer, hold the power button in for several seconds then turn back on again.

What the hell is this? has anyone else had this message come up when using izotope ozone 4?

Rob

OK It's 3:25 AM here in the UK

I have been through numerous configuratons with plugins and thought Amplitube worked ok but then that started giving me the same messages again.

I had Melodyne working fine on its own then I added in EZ Drummer, but it soon crashed again telling me the same old cpu message.

Just wondering if it is the mac now that's causing the problem?

Would appreciate anyone's input who has experience with this kinda set up

many thanks

Rob

Gonna see if this works any better.

You can get a job as a QA tester after this. Only takes a couple 3rd party products to start making the test matrix big and time consuming fast.

Thats a hardware error/kernel panic. Defective or incompatible RAM are the most frequent causes of kernel panics

Try running Rember which checks the RAM.
http://www.kelleycomputing.net/rember/

You may want to take out the RAM and put them back in till you get the problem. Also you should Repair Disk Permissions

I went back and read the last page of this thread and saw that you had Protools 7.4.2 and OSX 10.5.7 working before installing Melodyne and having Core Audio Driver problems and we were troubleshooting from that point. Next I hear you are having problems with Protools 8.0 cs3 and a completely new install with problems with Amplitube. I missed when we were done troubleshooting with Protools 7.4.2. Now it looks like you are doing a fresh install again back to 7.4.2. I think it would be wise to keep the troubleshooting organized and avoid jumping around with versions and fresh installs until we can isolate the problem. I just think we would waste less time that way. I know you are anxious to get your system up and running and stable but all this switching around and loading many plugins and then running into problems is not helping. Let's try to be systematic and test one thing at a time.

The comment about the RAM may have merit as I've put in some 3rd party RAM (less expensive Patriot brand RAM) on one of my systems before had many problems. I took it into Apple and the first thing they said was to swap out the RAM for their expensive ones and everything on that system has been running fine since. I'm not saying Apple RAM (expensive) is the only choice but it should be looked at as a possible culprit. I now buy my RAM from OWC (www.macsales.com) and have had good results with their RAM.

Hey Yes

You are right.

I had pro tols 8 then pro tools 7.4.2

Then back to 8 then back to 7.4.2 again loool

Yes I was trying different configurations out like I said before, but it has taken its toll.

It seems to me that the Core Audio driver for Digi is a BIG PROBLEM and not just for me, but for many people as well which is a relief so I know it's not just me.

The core audio driver was just another issue though and not my main problem cause.

I am having the same crashing with pro tools 7.4.2 as I was with PT 8, so I know it's definitely not just pro tools 8 = Relief because I much prefer pro tools 8's interface compared to dated windows NT/95 looking PT 7 :)

Not that the look of pro tools bother me too much.

Yes I think that weird error I was getting before was a kernal error message.

I have now taken my Mac Pro in to my dealer for diagnostic testing and they will bench test it for a day which will bring up any problems with components inside the machine.

I had a feeling it could be Ram related, which is why I took it in for testing. My Apple dealer had upgraded the ram of my mac pro from 2GB to 4GB as it was an ex display machine. I was just wondering if perhaps they used cheap ram? Surely an apple authorised dealer would only use Apple certified Ram?

Also thought it could be the motherboard or processors going weird?

Anyways, I will report back tommorow evening which is hopefully when I will get the mac back after the diagnostic stress testing is done on it.

Many thanks to everyone who is helping out with suggestions here

Rob

Yes good point, my Mac is now in for diagnostic testing with my Apple Dealer so hopefully they will pick something up here!

It seems like an odd hope, but let's hope they DO find something wrong. At least then you have a chance of replacing or fixing it. If they don't find anything wrong, you're in for a long frustrating time (as if it isn't already). Let us know what happens.
